Under the global trend of food industrialization and convenient food consumption, frozen shallots have become a popular agricultural product in international trade due to their storage resistance and ease of processing. As a major producer and exporter of onions in the world, China relies on its complete industrial chain advantages, continuous technological upgrades, and precise market adaptation to enable frozen shallots to occupy an important position in the international market and demonstrate its unique foreign trade competitiveness.
Large scale production capacity and stable supply are the fundamental advantages of China's foreign trade. China has a wide planting area and high yield of onions, with an annual output of 4.808 million tons in 2024. The three major production areas of Xinjiang, Gansu, and Inner Mongolia have formed large-scale planting bases, with a yield of 6-10 tons per mu, far exceeding the international average level. This scale advantage provides sufficient raw materials for cryogenic processing. By 2024, China's frozen shale production capacity has reached 1.3 million tons, with a capacity utilization rate of over 86%. It can achieve continuous supply throughout the year and effectively avoid the risk of seasonal shortages. Compared to traditional onion exporting countries such as India, China can not only undertake large-scale international orders, but also accurately match global market demand through staggered production seasons. For example, during the 2024 export ban in India, China quickly filled the gap in Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets, demonstrating strong supply resilience.
Technological upgrades drive quality improvement and build a solid foundation of trust in the international market. The Chinese frozen industry is accelerating its intelligent transformation, with a coverage rate of 62% for single rapid freezing (IQF) technology. Within 15 minutes, it can be frozen from room temperature to -35 ℃, effectively maintaining the integrity of onion cells and reducing the loss rate of thawed juice to below 7%. At the same time, the application of computer vision sorting, vacuum pre cooling and other technologies has achieved a product form integrity rate of not less than 90% and a microbiological qualification rate of 99.3%. In order to adapt to international high standards, Chinese enterprises actively promote the construction of certification systems. The number of enterprises that have passed international certifications such as FSSC 22000 and BRCGS has a compound annual growth rate of over 30%, and the compliance rate of EU pesticide residue standards has increased to 99%, successfully entering high-end markets such as Japan and the EU.
From raw material cultivation to processing and export, China's frozen diced shallots have firmly established a foothold in international competition with multiple advantages in production capacity, technology, policies, and markets. In the future, with the continuous upgrading of intelligent manufacturing and green cold chain, Chinese frozen diced shallots will further unleash its foreign trade potential and become a high-quality business card for Chinese characteristic agricultural products to go global.
